The Greene County Medical Center board of trustees on June 11 announced the appointment of Brian Benson as interim CEO, effective June 15. Benson will bring continued leadership to Greene County Medical Center while a national search for a new, permanent CEO is underway by the board, with the assistance of UnityPoint Health – Des Moines.
Benson began his career as a pharmacist in 1996 after earning his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Drake university. He then received his Pharm.D. from the University of Kansas in 2006. Benson began his employment with UnityPoint Health – Des Moines in 2001 and has subsequently expanded his scope of responsibilities with the organization. His many years of executive experience and pharmacy leadership background, combined with a strong focus on quality, safety and innovation, will help in providing additional effective leadership to Greene County Medical Center.

As interim CEO, Benson will continue the vision of improving the health of the people and communities Greene County Medical Center serves. This role will be in addition to his current responsibilities at UnityPoint Health – Des Moines. Teresa Newman, director of rural health resources for UnityPoint Health – Des Moines, will also continue to provide leadership support to Greene County Medical Center throughout the interim period.
